As the path of the witch is an earth-based faith the witches’ sabbaths, or holidays, are intrinsically connected with the cycles of nature. Primarily, the themes of birth, death and rebirth are played out across a year that is divided into light and dark, male and female, sun and moon, growth and rest and heat and cold.

Traditionally, most of the celebrations were linked to the cycles of the northern hemisphere, which became confusing for witches in the southern. Should southern hemisphere witches follow the traditional wheel of the year timings even though they are opposite to their seasons, or should they adapt and reverse the wheel so it is in rhythm with their own environment? Like most witches in the southern hemisphere I follow the wheel so that it more closely fits my unique natural seasonal cycles.
